We'll be featuring a different student profile here periodically in the hopes of giving prospective students a feel of what it's like to be a student at DArTT.

Q. What drew you to the courses at DArTT?
A. From many weeks of investigating online distance education courses and schools to offer to the public, a name that kept popping up to me was the Centre for Distance Education. The reputation for the school was impeccable. I was more interested in a distance course that would fit my schedule and DArTT was able to provide me the flexibility I needed. The courses that were offered at DArTT were courses that were geared to real world jobs that anyone can get from taking the courses. Q. Tell me how the experience of taking a home-study course from DArTT was for you. A. From taking the first home study course from DArTT, I had learned the essential skills needed to properly function in a business related to my course. When taking the course and needing assistance, my instructor was at my disposal. All I had to do was pick up the phone and, in no time at all, my issue was solved and I was able to proceed. From taking the course, I felt like my family had been extended and I will always think of DArTT as part of my family. Q. What made you decide to take your second course at DArTT? A. After finishing the first course at DArTT, I felt like I had accomplished a big life goal that I had set out to do. I felt that I had learned a tremendous amount that would assist me in my career. Every one at the Centre for Distance Education we behind me in my studies and I felt no issues with calling them if any difficulty had arise. When I found out that DArTT had a second 3D course (Advanced 3D Character Animation), I knew I had the support I needed to excel further with my education. Q. I know you have a large family, as well as a job. How do you manage to juggle your home life, a job, and this course? A. With my ever-demanding schedule of working a full time job, managing a new business, and dealing with day-to-day family life, I thought I would never have the time to go to school to further advance my education. From the schedule DArTT provided me, I do have time for my family, my job, my new business and to advance my education to the next level. Q. What kind of job do you hope to obtain when you graduate? Have you had any luck in the search so far? A. After my studies are completed, I hope to re-enter the film industry, or the fast-growing gaming industry, creating animations and games of all sorts. At present, I have had a few offers to work making animation film, but it was only for a month at a time. I want to finish my studies and then I will fully challenge my abilities and work in the fast-growing industry. Q. Have you taken other post-secondary schooling? Was this more or less difficult, or just different from in-class learning? A. I have taken Graphic Design and Graphic technology in a classroom setting. From taking the distance course at the DArTT, I have found it both easier and more relaxing than in a class room setting. Studying from home gives me the advantage of working at my own pace and having the time to spend with my family. It is a total hands-on training that works best when learning such a course. Q. You're a local student, and unlike most of our students, you've met your instructors. How would you describe them? A. Well my instructor is around 7 feet tall and has orange spiky hair that... just kidding. My instructor is very helpful. Gayle has the experience and knows how to assist you in what ever the issue is for the course. From being in the DArTT headquarters; I can say that as soon as you walk in there, you feel a sense of a family environment. All of the instructors are super nice and are more than happy to offer a helping hand. If I can recommend anything to anyone, I would definitely recommend taking a course here at DArTT. Q. Just one more question. Do you have any advice for students taking a course from DArTT? A. If I was given the opportunity to give advice to the students for DArTT, I would have to say that if you are experiencing any difficulty with your course, pick up the phone and call. Don’t be shy to ask any questions. The only silly questions are the questions that are not asked. From my two years of experience dealing with the Center for Distance Education, I would recommend any of the courses that are offered and know they are backed with the education and friendliness of the instructors and staff.
